atlantic collegiate athletic association cancels 2020-21 winter semester conference competitions and championships
after consultations with athletics directors and deliberation among the presidents of its member institutions, the atlantic collegiate athletic association (acaa) has canceled the regular season and championships for the remainder of the 2020-21 season due to the ongoing covid-19 pandemic.
the decision not to proceed with conference play and championships was made in response to the changing situation and restrictions in the individual provinces and across the region. in a conference call yesterday, the presidents of the acaa institutions agreed that a prudent response to the current situation was to cancel conference competition for men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball and badminton.
however, the acaa will allow member driven play as determined by individual institutions and subject to public health directives and approved return to play plans for each sport if possible.
while we are disappointed for our student athletes and coaches, mount athletics supports the decision made by the acaa. our priority is the health and safety of all involved in competition and the delivery of our athletic programs.
to our student athletes and coaches – msvu values athletics and is grateful for the tremendous contribution you make to the institution and our community. we are committed to supporting you and your team through these uncertain times, and will have more information to share as work continues on plans for this winter.
we understand that this is difficult news to hear. but we know that your resiliency, as well as your dedication and commitment to your education and sport, will see our mount mystics get through this time – one way together.
thank you for your patience and understanding. take care and stay safe.
