statistics is the art of turning data into information. built on a mathematical foundation, statistics involves the collection, analysis, interpretation, and presentation of data. it is used in academic disciplines from the natural sciences and engineering to the social sciences and humanities and applications abound in government, business, and industry.

the mathematics department offers a minor in statistics, and for those who wish to study the subject more deeply, our mathematics major includes additional courses in statistics.
